Napa County GIS Day 2026

Question

Hello everyone!

Over here in California wine country, Napa County will be hosting a public in-person GIS Day event this year.

It will update as we approach November, but here is a storymap made for the event (using ESRI's GIS Day storymap template!):

Our event last year was a great success. Napa County Board of Supervisors gave a proclamation recognizing GIS Day November 19th 2025 (see the attached!). The event was kicked off by Supervisor Amber Manfree, who has worked with GIS software since 2004, who gave a speech on the importance of GIS and its use in public service. You can see some of the pictures from last years event in the storymap link.

We're all very excited over here to continue putting on this event for years to come, and to continue to showcase work done in local government and in the Napa County geospatial community!

That's a great plan! The beauty of events is trial and error until you find what works best. Splitting the presentations into their own room so the open house can keep the conversations going is a smart move - sounds like you learned exactly what got in the way last year and fixed it. Hope the bigger space brings an even bigger turnout this year! We'd love to see pics and videos once the event wraps up.

We're hoping for a bigger turnout and have reserved more space at the library to make it happen!

Last year we had the event in one room and split it between open house with tabling and chairs infront of a podium and projector for presentations. It worked, but conversations at the open house tables or from curious members of the public wandering in stopped each time a presentation started. This year we're having another room dedicated to presentations so the open house area can continue to facilitate those conversations and welcome in curious members of the public while presentations are happening.

Creating a StoryMap is such a great way to market your event. It sounds like your event last year was a success to say the least. Do you think you'll have an even bigger turnout this year given last year the Napa County Board of Supervisors officially recognized GIS Day? That is SO cool 🙂
