Creating a network dataset with existing and proposed roads

Hi,

I am using Pro 3.6.0 and I am trying to build a network dataset from 2 shapefiles (existing and proposed roads) in order to perform a service area. I am missing a step somewhere or I have not done something properly. Below is what I received when running the service area with my network dataset as well as what it looks like using Esri's default network dataset.

Steps that I have done:

Cleaned up the tables and then merged

Used topology to locate dangles

Used integrate and snap to fix vertices

When setting up the cost attributes I changed connectivity from end point to any vertices

I feel I am close and now am wondering if I set up cost attributes incorrectly.

Thank you. I did run an service analysis on both and they are not the same. The service area from the dataset is too angular so I am trying to find where I went wrong with it in the building of the network dataset.

You're definitely close!  I googled the question - "what's the difference between an Esri provided Network Dataset and a user created Network Dataset?" and it provided a good answer I believe - "The main difference between an Esri provided network dataset and a user-created network dataset lies in the source of the data and the level of customization. Esri-provided datasets are typically pre-configured and may include features like streets, public attractions, and other relevant data. User-created datasets allow for more granular control over the data, including the ability to add or remove features, set up travel attributes, and define network sources. This flexibility is particularly useful for modeling complex transportation networks or customizing datasets for specific use cases."

With that being said, you could run a few Network Analysis solvers on both Network Datasets to see what the result is between both.
