How can I convert a pitemx file to a shp file?

I clicked OPEN IN ARCGIS DESKTOP, then OPEN IN ARCGIS PRO. A pitemx file was downloaded. I opened this in ARCGIS Pro. Now I need to convert this data to a shape file so that it can be used in other tools. When I right click on the layer in contents pane, there is no "Data - export" option. Is there a way to save the data as a shape file?

Hello, I hope you're doing well.

Every time I find myself in this situation, I forget how to export a Shapefile from a .pitemx file, even though I've done it before. I ran into the same issue again today, on 09/25/2025, and finally remembered the solution. You just need to open the Geoprocessing Tools, search for "Copy Features", and that’s it!

When you say copy the piteMX out of the index, what are you meaning? Just out of the contents pane of the map the piteMX creates?

Or if there is an index pane, can you direct me there?

I figured it out... however it is probably too late.

Find the file in File Explorer, it will create a project and a map.

Copy the piteMX out of the index and past it into YOUR map.

Big, bang, boom!
