Please allow users to manually set the transparency of the mask behind fullscreen covers or remove the mask entirely. The cover is the most important image; we should be able to display it without obscuring it with a mask.
There are a total of six cover layouts and many more panel style customizations available (some with and some without a transparent box or mask).

When might one see the option to modify the degree of opacity for the mask... the cover is typically a striking image. One wants just enough mask for legibility without detracting from the image. Depending on the image that percentage will change. thank you!

That sounds better, @OwenGeo, but to clarify, I think there should be a cover option to display text over a full screen image, just without a mask.
We are currently working on some cover enhancements that include the ability to select from several different styles, including one without a text background.
We hope to release these before the end of this year.
