I'm looking for recommendations on an afordable field data collection tablet. I'd like something Android based that is rugged and can be used with Field Maps and some other Android-based applications.
Yes, I agree, this is the conclusion I have come to. Thanks for replying.
Hi @BrianNorman,
We haven't bought anything yet but most probably will go with Active4 Pro. The specs of Active5 is a bit underwhelming.
Hi @dsinha, did you ever manage to evaluate between the Galaxy Tab Active5 and Active 4 Pro? I appreciate there's a screen size difference, just wondering if you went for one of these options as we are currently looking to upgrade.
Thanks for the recommendations @Y_Chau!
IMO 8 inch is good if you want to pair with a pole mounted antenna. 10 inch is too big for that. If you will use the tab solo then both are fine. But 10 inch still feels big and heavy while out in the field. So Tab Active5. It should also have some performance enhancement.
Looking to buy android field tablets for my organization. Has anybody tried the Galaxy Tab Active5 or should I stick with Active 4 Pro?
Thanks,
Deb.
No the 3 is old and slow.
You can get them from Samsung direct https://www.samsung.com/us/business/mobile/tablets/galaxy-tab-active/explore/
We got them from CDW https://www.cdw.com/product/samsung-galaxy-tab-active-4-pro-tablet-android-64-gb-10.1-3g-4g/7155441?pfm=srh
Amazon too https://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-Galaxy-TabActive4-Pro-10-1-Android-Work-Tablet-Sensitive-Touchscreen-Long-Battery-Life/dp/B0BBT2QWJY/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2LDLW16TS6TQX&keywords=Samsung%2BGalaxy%2BTab%2BActive%2B4%2BPro&qid=1692626019&s=electronics&sprefix=samsung%2Bgalaxy%2Btab%2Bactive%2B4%2Bpro%2B%2Celectronics%2C121&sr=1-1&th=1
Get one and see how you like it.
You should buy what is locally available in your area with good support. If not then go for the Chinese tablets with Ublox Z-F9P GNSS. Pick any like Stonex, CHCNAV...just make sure the GNSS is the 184 channel Ublox Z-F9P. Excellent performance with CORS and works great with Field Maps. Without CORS can get you below 1m.
Samsung Tab Active4 Pro is good if you don't need cm positioning. Handheld Group of Sweden also make good rugged tablets.
Hi Doug, thanks. Would this be a good option? Not seeing that the Active 4 Pro is readily available. I'd like it to work with Verizon carrier. Its so confusing what to buy.

There really only is one - the Samsung Active 4 Pro. Rugged, has dual band GPS so does submeter, swappable batteries, etc. The rest tend to be higher end.
