Adding imagery to my basemap in non-WGS 84 projections

Hi All, so what I would ideally like to do is create my own basemap using ESRI imagery or actually imagery hosted on a WMS and export the basemap as an equal area projection. This doesn't seem to be possible. Any ideas on a workaround?
