Effeciently Plotting ISP Coverage Maps using FCC data and HEX8 Grid

Hello there, 

I am having trouble plotting coverage maps for Individual ISPs in the US. The data available has a HEX8 column and I downloaded the base grid from the FCC's website here (https://us-fcc.app.box.com/s/743307kjdy8yptlyto5wpgf2bp3wesyv/folder/146929108266)

 

I tried doing this by Creating a join using the HEX8 column. It seems to work but it is extremely slow to plot or display any information on the map when I click it. Is there an easier way to plot this? Should I try filtering the data? Would accessing it from a database be any faster?
