Subpage menu customisation

Is there anyway to customise the aesthetics of the subpage menu without going into the developer version?

Is this something that could potentially be a part of the next ExB release?

At the moment it looks tacky because I'm using pills in the header menu.

We also need that feature at our disposal since the recent design of the subhead menu is not appealing to the users.
