ArcGIS StoryMaps embedding an Operations Dashboard

Hi there.  Just finished a great read of the following blog Enrich your stories with embedded web content

Can someone help me understand why embedding an ArcGIS app requires that it be shared with the public first?

This is problematic when the story is to be shared internally only, and the dashboard contains sensitive information.

Hi @cassklee -- It's not required to share a dashboard publicly if you want to embed it in a story, but it's strongly recommended. This is because there are many complex web security and authentication requirements that need to align with embedded content that is not shared publicly for everything to work as expected in all situations.

If your story and dashboard are both only shared with the same org or group then things usually work very well. However, if the story is public and the dashboard is only shared to the org or a group, you may see mixed results.

If you need someone to access a private dashboard you can always provide a link to it in the story so the reader can open the dashboard in another browser tab. Unless the dashboard is very simple, opening in a new tab usually provides the best experience for using the dashboard anyway.
