Share as web layer - publishing a Feature Service

When sharing a web layer aka publishing a feature service via a federated server (Portal for ArcGIS Enterprise), why is a map service created along with it?

Can I delete the map service and just have the feature service only? Will it impact the feature service in any way?

In the following help topic, it states that when sharing a feature layer that references data to ArcGIS Enterprise, it's shared as a dependent layer to a map image layer.  Hence the why a map imager layer/service is created.  I would not delete the map service.
