Greetings. I just retired from teaching Earth Science at the k12 level, and loved using GIS in my classes. I also am interested in fossils and using GIS to plot up the location of outcrops in Virginia and West Virginia
Great to have you at the UC. Using GIS in K-12 Earth Science introduces Science students to an invaluable skill set. Using it for sampling sites is a great tool for those of us that like to collect earth samples.
Absolutely true. When my colleagues were busy with zoom and canvas. I had my students collecting rocks in their backyard and send me their lat, long, and rock type and we created a crude geologic map of my county. We did the same with weather data. Are you an Earth Science teacher too?
Bill
Very cool. Are you in Virginia? I am a research associate at the Virginia Museum of Natural History and I also plan to work with a geology at the Department of mines, minerals, and energy. I am inventorying fossil collections in Martinsville and Charlottesville.
Where did you teach HS geology. I taught at Franklin County High School 20 miles South of Roanoke.
