Hi

I contacted support Arc hydro and my problem was that I did not have the OBJECTID field in my feature class.
I added it and now everything works fine. They will correct the problem.

Natalie,

This is a common error message. It could be there is file conflict in your temp directory. By clearing the temp directory, you eliminate potential file conflicts. Go here (http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/48100-ArcHydro-Problem-Solvers) to find several solutions including deleting the temp directory files. See the second suggestion under number 2 of the first post for the simplest way of doing this.

Report back if that works!

I am experiencing the same error when reconditioning a DEM ("burning" in field collected river vector data) using Arc Hydro tools.

Error 010024: Error during conversion

I'm running ArcGIS 10.1 in Windows 7 using Bootcamp. All files are saved on the windows side of the partition.

I've tried [as suggested aon this forum] deleting files in my temp directory, changing the processing extent, and setting the raster export pointer to a directory and the shapefile pointer to a geodatabase. The river vector data are saved in a geodatabase, and all my projections are WGS 1984 Mercator. I've played around with different projections and tried clipping the DEM in case it was a memory issue...all to no avail.

I am a long-time Arc user but have never used 10.1, bootcamp, nor Arc Hydro. Perhaps a bad combo.

Any suggestions would be very welcome! If Arc Hydro won't work for me, do you have any suggestions for other ways to burn our river field data into the DEM?

I'm not sure what is going wrong with kimcarlson's project. I searched the error kimcarlson posted and found this in Desktop Help:

The DEMs I use are floating point and I've move the polyline layer I used for agreestream for burning the streams into a geodatabase. I don't get this error.

so, I watched ArcCatalog results and it is 2 types of errors based on the input data that I used:
1) When I put river.shp from the .gdb it gives me this error:

Every time I try to run DEM Manipulation || DEM Reconditioning I get " ERROR 010024 :error during conversion".
In spite of everything was done in accordance with Tutorials, I get this error message.
Maybe anybody could help me...

I see you are using a tif. I've never started with a tif, so I don't know if using a tif works with the Arc Hydro tools. Converting the tif to an official raster may solve the problem. However, I converted my raster to a tif and the tif worked with DEM Reconditioning. I'm no expert on raster/tif issues with Spatial Analyst, but maybe the error lies in that.

It`s a .tif from the Tutorial Data for ArcHydro 2.0 (ftp://RiverHydraulics@ftp.esri.com/ArcHydro/Data/Tutorial/2.0/) and it`s a step of Arc Hydro Tools 2.0 - Tutorial.pdf (ftp://RiverHydraulics@ftp.esri.com/ArcHydro/Doc/ArcHydro2_0/). In this tutorial the data is in the AIG format, but it doesn`t matter in my case. If it seems not to work with the tutorial data I definitely wouldn`t expect this program to work with the real data...
Spatial Analyst works perfectly!

Oh dear. I'm going to have add my woes to the list of those plagued by "Error during conversion" while trying to recondition a DEM in ArcHydro. synaps, have you found anything new to report?

I'm running the latest version of ArcHydro on ArcGIS 10.1, at ArcInfo level (afaik it's ArcInfo--I'm using the "Desktop Advanced Student Edition," as I am a student). I am running Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit.

I've followed all of the steps outlined in the Geoprocessing Tutorial pdf (on the FTP site), and listed in other posts. I'm putting my rasters and vectors in their proper places. My river is in a feature class inside a feature dataset in a .gdb; folder names and indeed the whole path has no spaces, etc...whole new projects; clearing my temp folder every time I try to run the tool; saving my mxd; and, as mentioned, all the steps listed in the error-solving post on this forum.

Still, this error pops up each time, much like synaps' original error:

Making sharp constant grid ..
ERROR 010024: Error during conversion.
Failed to execute (DEMReconditioning).
Failed at Wed Oct 31 22:25:09 2012 (Elapsed Time: 3.00 seconds)

Every time at the "making sharp constant grid" step, the tool fails. Argh! I've tried using a .tif and a regular GRID as the raw DEM input, but no dice either way. Does the bit depth/pixel type matter? What else can I try to do?

You should see a more explicit error message in the geoprocessing result window.
If you are not using shapefiles, the error is likely that your input stream feature class has the OID field instead of the OBJECTID field.
During our upgrade of the code to take advantage of the geoprocessing conversion tool in DEM Reconditioning, we have hardcoded the field OBJECTID by mistake (instead of letting the system figuring it out -- OID, OBJECTID, etc.). So the tool fails when OBJECTID is not found in the input stream feature class. The workaround is to add the OBJECTID field to your input stream feature class.

We are in the middle of major changes and will post the fix with the latest updates.

I downloaded the tutorial data from the link you provided and started an mxd. I set up a model in Model Builder. I find the runtime messages from Model Builder are a little more informative. I saw a message about the elev DEM being integer. So, I used the raster calculator function Float() function to make a floating point DEM. I tried again and found my target locations were off (I hadn't started by closing ArcMap and starting from scratch). I also saved the mxd with a shorter name, made sure the processing extent was the same as my new DEM. I started up the model again and it ran fine all the way through AdjointCatchment (see image).

So, I think the tutorial stream data is good and it comes with the correct field name (OBJECTID). I think your error might be that DEM is integer and needs to be converted to floating point. After getting the Model to run with a floating point DEM, I ran it again with the integer DEM and it didn't get past the DEM Reconditioning. I changed to the floating point DEM and it ran fine.

So use the raster calculator float() function to create a floating point DEM. Then check the processing extent and the target locations to make sure they are correct. The best thing to do is to start with a fresh mxd with a simple name and save it after adding the DEM and stream layer.

I just started a new mxd, added the NHDFlowline layer, added elev_cm, saved as SM.mxd (a simple file name), in G:\fldctl\PROGRAMS\ArcHydro\DataForArcHydro20Tutorial\SanMarcos (a long directory name, but with no spaces). Then I ran the DEM Reconditioning and it ran fine. This is with the elev_cm which is an "unsigned integer" grid which I thought might be a problem, but obviously isn't.

My sense is that your problem is not the data. Check your directory path and make sure it has no spaces. Start from a clean mxd so the target locations are set properly. Keep it simple and see if it runs.

FYI - my target locations are (look under ApUtilities\Set Target Locations\HydroConfig):[INDENT]Raster Data: G:\fldctl\PROGRAMS\ArcHydro\DataForArcHydro20Tutorial\SanMarcos\
Vector Data: G:\fldctl\PROGRAMS\ArcHydro\DataForArcHydro20Tutorial\SanMarcos\sm.gdb (sm.gdb here has the same name as the name of as my sm.mxd)[/INDENT]

I've attached a zip of the Toolbox with the Model in it. The bulk of the Model can be found in the Arc Hydro Toolbox.tbx under Terrain Preprocessing Workflows/Basic Dendritic Terrain Processing. I've added the DEM Reconditioning and Fill Sinks tools by dragging and dropping that command from the Arc Hydro Toolbox.tbx\Terrain Preprocessing tools and then editing the input "ovals" to reference the correct DEM and stream data.

I suggest you put the unzipped Toolbox.tbx file in the same directory as your mxd. Via the catalogue in ArcMap open the toolbox and then edit the Model. Make sure the input ovals reference your data, save the model and then run it while in "edit". You can copy and paste the runtime messages to a text/word file if you need to keep them for study. I just did this for a final check and it work fine.

Hi, has anybody made any progress on these errors? I get the " HRESULT E_FAIL " and "error 010024: Error during conversion" and am completely unable to use ArcHydro since installing the most current version after getting upgraded to ArcGiS 10.1. I'm experienced with the toolset and have followed all advice given here for setting up. Any advice would be most appreciated.

I`ve just installed BETA 10.1 http://blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/2012/11/26/are-you-using-arc-hydro-tools-for-10-1-beta/ and my comp freezes and returns me with the message "tool not valid" for all of them.

Are you by chance on ArcGIS Desktop 10.0? The ArcHydro Beta (build 10.1.0.52) is for ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1

You'd need an ArcHydro for 10.0 (last build was 2.1.0.116) if you are on Desktop 10.0

I am trying to reconditioning a raster (flow accumulation) using "DEM Reconditioning". However it keeps showing the following error ( details are attached)

My procedure is

Sink Evaluation > Flow Direction > Flow Accumulation > Fill sink > Flow Direction > Flow Accumulation > DEM Reconditioning

I have tried all the options described in this blog. Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.

Mirza,

You should do the DEM Reconditioning first. Then do fill sinks. Then do flow direction. Basically the order of operation is the order the tools appear in the menu. You don't have to use all of the tools.

The HRESULT error could be due to having the project an Arc Hydro file on a network server. Move the project to your PC and try it.

Search for the "Arc Hydro Problem Solvers" thread. I created that thread and there are lots of practical suggestions there.

Hi Mark, I have tried to run DEM RECONDITIONING, I have tried all the solutions posted here, but I couldn't run the tool. I'm using ArcGIS 10.7, windows 10. The process starts, but I have noticed in Results that after the "Eculidean Allocations", the process "IsNull" can't be completed, as follows:
