Can someone be a member of 2 separate organizations?

Hi,

We deal with many external partners who we share data with. Up until now the users we have dealt with have not had an AGOL account so we have just set them up as new users within our organization however I am now having trouble adding existing users who are members of other organizations. Has anyone come across this problem before?

What I really want to do is add these existing users to a group I have so we can collaborate on a project. Is this only possible if we are members of the same organization? Is there any way to add them to my group without adding them to my organization? Or can they be members of 2 organizations?

A username is tied to a specific org and cannot be duplicated in another org. With that said you can be a member of as many orgs as you want, with different usernames. As noted, the way to do this is to collaborate at the group level.

I have not done this, but I've heard it is possible. Apologies that I can't edit my graphic below better, but I think if you go into the group -> invite users -> and then uncheck the "only search for members in"... you can then search for users in another organization to invite them. Worth a try anyway.

Otherwise, they may need to be added using a different email address, as a second option.

Here is a previous thread that shows the steps required to setup up a Group to allow all members to edit/update items in that group.

And Rebecca's suggestion is right on regarding Inviting Users...additionally, you want to ensure that the users you are inviting have their ArcGIS Online profile configured to allow everyone (the public) to view otherwise they will not show up in the Invite Users dialog.

You can be in as many AGOOs as you want as long as you can remember your usernames!
