The feature updates and refreshed look and feel of the Nearby app are great overall, and I appreciate the cleaner, less cluttered redesign. However, the current handling of the legend and layer list creates workflow issues.
The legend and layer list are essential elements of interactive maps. The legend helps users understand what they are seeing, while the layer list allows users to control what is displayed. Because both are central to map use, they should be easier to view and use together. For many workflows, this is essential.
Now that all map tools are located within the same menu, users must click back and forth between the legend and layer list, with only one visible at a time. This is inconvenient, especially when both are needed together. The option to add a legend to the layer list is helpful, but it requires too much clicking because each layer has its own individual legend, and it does not present the layer symbology in a clean or intuitive way.
A helpful solution would be to allow essential map elements, such as the legend and layer list, to be docked outside of the main tools menu, with the option to make both visible by default. This would restore some of the flexibility that existed before the recent updates while still supporting the cleaner redesigned interface.
