Field Maps - App Crashing Immediately

ArcGIS Field Maps is crashing for all users in my organization. They all did the app store update, and as soon as the app launches it will crash. I have experienced this issue on my iPhone 15, and all users in the org are using iPhones. Wondering if this is part of the ArcGIS Online 2026 update?

We wanted to provide an update regarding the issue affecting ArcGIS Field Maps when using the Community Map of Canada Topographic basemaps. The issue has now been resolved and the following basemaps should be functioning normally in ArcGIS Field Maps:

Topographic / Topographie
CMOCOffline (offline tile layer of the Topographic basemap)

Important for offline map users: If you are using the CMOCOffline basemap, you will need to update each existing offline map area in ArcGIS Field Maps Designer (https://www.arcgis.com/apps/fieldmaps/) to ensure the corrected basemap content is downloaded to mobile devices. Existing offline map areas will continue to reference the older data until they are refreshed.

Thank you to everyone who reported the issue and provided logs and support cases. Your feedback helped us investigate and validate the fix as quickly as possible.

If you continue to experience any unexpected behaviour with Community Map of Canada basemaps in ArcGIS Field Maps, please open a support case and include any relevant details or logs so the team can investigate further.

I have gone back and downloaded the APK for the April update before the latest. All my maps are working again without crashing. Will try and use the old version of the FieldMaps App Android 26.1.2 Build 2800 until they have fixed this problem in the latest version.

Hi Colin,

All was working well last week. No problems whatsoever with any of my maps (Light to heavy). All contractors happy. Monday morning emails flying, nothing working.

There is no common layer in these maps as they are all different projects. I spotted a update on my iPad just now. Version 26.2.1 Build 2794.

I closed everything restarted the device opened FieldMaps and login. Opened one of my maps and got to question 5 in the form and it closed on me. Opened again and failed it closed at the first question. Tried again and failed again. It is so inconsistent. I thought it was a problem with an expression but nothing to point to any of that. Nothing to troubleshoot as there is no errors. I tried resaving and changing the base map.

Thanks for reporting this and for sharing the details you've gathered so far.

The Community Maps team is aware of this issue affecting users of ArcGIS Field Maps where the application crashes immediately after launch or when opening web maps using our CMOC basemaps. This was a result of the recent ArcGIS Online update.

At this time, we can confirm that the issue has been reproduced and we are working hard to resolve this as quickly as possible.

We can report that some of our basemaps should now be available to use in ArcGIS Field Maps:

Light Grey / Nuances de gris (pâle)
Dark Grey / Nuances de gris (foncé)
Streets / Rues
Streets (Night) / Rues (style nuit)
Imagery Hybrid / Imagerie Hybride
Neutral Utility / Services Publics (Neutre)
Public Safety Hybrid / Sécurité Publique Hybride
Grey Accessible / Accessible (Gris)

We are continuing to work on fixes for the following basemaps:

Topographic / Topographie
CMOCOffline (tile layer of the Topographic basemap for offline use)

Additional information will be shared as soon as it becomes available. We are targeting a fix to our online and offline Topographic basemaps for later this week.

If you are experiencing this behaviour, please continue to open support cases and provide logs where possible, as this helps the teams confirm affected configurations and prioritize the resolution.

We appreciate your patience and will post an update in this thread when more information can be shared.

This sounds like potentially a different cause in your case as others would experience the crash the moment the map was opened. If possible, I would reach out to Esri Support to see if they can help narrow down the cause in your case.

If this is happening in multiple maps, are there are common layers between them? If so, I would start by removing those. Just to clarify, did this only start occurring for you recently?

We have the same problem on multiple maps. No matter what basemap I use. I am also using form in most of the maps with nothing fancy in the expressions. Funny thing is you can open the same map 10 times and start editing it and will not fail at the same spot. It's very inconsistent. Scaling maps down is not really a option if you have multiple projects running and all relying on FieldMaps. It also does not matter if you are using IOS or Android. iPad or iPhone no difference.

Thank you for confirming. Yes, there will be an update but it remains to be seen whether this will happen at the app level (Field Maps) or an update to the basemaps themselves (or both). The team is actively investigating and I can provide an update here when we know more.

We have been experiencing this issue as well.

Our map in question was using "Esri Canada Light Grey" as the basemap. When we changed it to an existing in-house made basemap, the issue went away for all iPhone users.

I was using the 'Canada Streets' basemap.

I just tested and looks like any and all of the 'Canada' version basemaps cause the crash.

Will there be a Field Maps update to resolve this?

Android devices with the latest Field Maps installed do not seem to be affected.

@KVD @GrantHoward1 what basemap is being used for the maps that are crashing? We have identified an issue with the Canada Topographic basemap that is leading to a crash. Can you please confirm if this is the basemap in the problematic maps? If not, is there a common basemap between them that you are using?

I'm currently dealing with this as well. And to make it worse our County is dealing with localized flooding right now too, so there is even more users on Field Maps.
I have been troubleshooting since Friday trying to figure out the reason for the crashing.
Just last night I have determined that if a user has the newest version of Field Maps installed (version 26.2.0 on iPad or 26.2.1 on iPhone) then SOME maps will crash.
Not all maps in Field Maps will crash.

What I did as a workaround for our currently heavily-used flooding incident map is I created a really-scaled-down version of it. So a completely different webmap. It has way less layers in it. So iit's not as user-friendly as the original map that keeps crashing, but at least my workaround one doesn't crash.

The only way for a user to open my workaround map is to uninstall the Field Maps application on their device and re-install it. Because otherwise it just tries to open a map that keeps crashing and the user gets stuck in an 'endless crashing loop'.

So now, I have to figure out what is different between the several maps that crash on users and the maps that don't crash on users.

I have no idea yet, but some of the testing I am going to try to do today will be to test if it could be:
specific symbology used? specific filters used? specific labels used? too much data in the crashing maps? specific layers in the crashing maps? maybe the manner in which a layer is hosted in the crashing maps? maybe editing capabilities/configurations of certain layers? or could it be that my workaround map was created AFTER the June AGOL update?

Is this not testing that should have occurred within the Field Maps beta program BEFORE mass updating Field Maps!??!

Are you sourced to the Esri Vector Communtity Basemap as your default basemap? I had to change from this because it instantly crashed. We also run into the issue now where attachments don't work with the latest field maps update. It's been a mess.
