Search metadata by field I choose e.g. Credits, then order results by date

I would like to be able to use the search tool in ArcCatalog 10 and limit my search to specific metadata fields of my choosing e.g. Credits / who made the map.  If I could do this, then I could easily find all the e.g. maps I personally have created.  I would then like to be able to order the results by date saved.  This, combined with the current ability to search maps, data or tools, would be really helpful.

ArcGIS Desktop retired March 1, 2026 so we won’t be considering this idea. We recommend that you migrate to ArcGIS Pro, our fully supported desktop GIS application.

What you're describing in this Idea is already possible in ArcGIS Pro. The behavior for accomplishing this in ArcGIS Pro is documented in the "Search the project" help topic: https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/projects/search-online-and-project-items.htm#ESRI_SECTION1_3A49AEA2B94B4133B4892D7308693FB7 . The fields that can be used to search are listed in the help topic. Credits is one of the fields that can be searched.
