The island of Madagascar is known as one of the so-called world biodiversity hot spots. Madagascar fauna and flora have interested numerous naturalists and biologists for a very long time. A large volume of biodiversity data has been collected in the field. However, many of these data sets are not available, and those that are available are scattered all over the island and outside the island. In addition to the difficulty of accessing biodiversity data, the insufficiency of technical capacities within the country constitutes a serious handicap to environmental management decision making at all levels.
