add up all points that fall within a polygon. total number of points per county

Question

I'd like to add up all points that fall within each NY county so that I end up with a list of counties and the total number of points per county.

I can use Select by Location but I'd have to pre-select each county, one at a time, is that right?

Yes.  Or you could use a spatial join.  Spatial joins by feature type—Help | Documentation
