Feature class taking a long time to display

Question

I have a polygon feature class located on my SDE which when I bring it into my map causes my map to go to 'Not Responding'. It eventually loads but takes longer than it should. This polygon loaded fine when it was in .shp format but ever since I uploaded it to the SDE, it takes longer to load. I thought maybe it had some corrupt fields in it but I deleted some of the fields and it still takes a long time. Can anybody help me out with this problem?

It is works fine locally...and not otherwise, then there is nothing wrong with the file but the access environment.  Especially if other files exhibit the same behaviour.
