Combining Web Maps

Question

I have multiple ArcGIS Online web maps that I would like to combine. When I create a new map and search for layers in ArcGIS Online, I cannot find any of my content. Am I going about this the wrong way? Accorting to the help documentation, it states:
 "Web maps can be combined (that is, mashed up). This enables anyone with a Web browser to connect to ArcGIS.com and assemble and share Web maps." Is this statement incorrect?

For instance, here are 2 maps I want to combine:

I am not sure if this will solve your problem or not, but did you publicly share your data from the old maps and use key words to make it easier to find?

YES! I am looking for the same thing! Since you have posted this post over half a year go my question to you is if you have found an (alternative) solution.
