Custom Feature Templates for Mapservices in Portal

Hosted feature services allow one to create custom feature templates in web maps. Is there a way to do this using an existing feature service coping from ArcGIS Server? I know you can create templates in ArcMap and then publish but I want to limit what templates are available in the web map and have not been able to find a way to do this.

I have also the same question. I would like to create custom feature templates in the Enterprise portal from existing feature services and not from a hosted feature service. We have published our geodatabase data in bulk and we would like to utilize those services instead for creating new ones. The point of having published in bulk seems otherwise uneccesary. Is this going to be implemented soon? Is it possible for ESRI to answer this?
