unable to add excel data in ArcMap 10.3

Question

Hi,

I'm using ArcMap 10.3, and I'm trying to add a table from excel. In the Add data dialog box, I am not able to navigate to any files from my computer, and in the "show of type" drop down menu, it seems to only allow "Datatsets, Layers and Results." Any ideas? I'm really new on this so maybe it's something obvious, but can't figure it out.

Since it is a table, make sure that you have the 'data view' icon selected in the table of contents, since it won't show up in 'layer view'

ah! okay. I found the excel to table tool. it seems to have imported, now I just need to find it. Thank you Dan!

Thanks for the tip. I don't know how to make that work though... how do I create or specify an output table? Does that code go into the python window?
