Exporting to TIFF with transparency?

I am exporting a map to TIFF and have changed the background color to 'no color', but the resulting TIFF retains whatever the data frame's background color is.

The problem is that simple... how do I get rid of the background color when exporting to a TIFF? The option is there but it does nothing.

A Tiff is not a standard image format that supports transparency. So whatever you set the background color to in the format tab of the export or the dataframes background color property is set to or if both are transparent then the map image will be flattened on export and the background will be white. You should use an image format that supports transparency like PNG or GIF.
