Posting via REST to GEOPORTAL

I am trying to POST a Dublin Core object/xml to Geoportal using the REST api as described in
http://help.arcgis.com/en/geoportal_extension/10.0/sdk/
So i am trying to post the xml using the http://localhost:8080/geoportal/rest/manage/document url which wrapped around spring's restTemplate. As i undertstand that i can just post a xml .
I get a HTTP 409 conflict which doesnt specify the http409 actual conflict as mentioned in ManageDocumentServlet.java in the source of Geoportal.
Can anyone give an example of how to push a xml  (dublin core) via REST to Geoportal ?

I managed to do the above following. Posting herein for other interested users.
Used jena library to create the associated dublincore message (RDF)

<rdf:RDF
    xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#"
    xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" >
  <rdf:Description rdf:about="sample">
    <dc:source>sample</dc:source>
    <dc:title>sample</dc:title>
  </rdf:Description>
</rdf:RDF>

and then POST it to http://localhost:8080/geoportal/rest/manage/document in the HTTP request. You may want to extend CommonsClientHttpRequestFactory to provide support for Basic Http authentication.
