Map not displayed in collector

Howdy,

I am trying to set up an Ap for my office to use in the field and collector looks like it is exactly what I need, however, in trying to set it up, my trial maps are not visible on Collector. I can make maps on ArcGIS web, follow the tutorial, and all seems great, it is saved on the web server, I can even find it on the ArcGIS Ap, but I can NOT find my map on Collector.

I have tried to tutorial that is provided, inputted all basemaps/layers, and can find that generated map on all three spots (web server, ArcGIS Ap, Collector Ap) but when I try and make a map with my data, I cannot find it on Collector. It seems like there is one tiny step Im missing somewhere that will allow me to make my map 'go live' for use.

Any suggestions are greatly, greatly appreciated

Make sure you share the map to a group and those other accounts are members of the groups. The collector only displays content that is shared into groups or that is owned by the account signed in.

I have a collector map that works with my Samsung Galaxy Collector if I sign on with my user account. If I change accounts to either one of 2 other users we have, there are no maps available. They have the same kind of phones I have. I can sign on with my account info on their phones and use the collector map. We have yet to access the map with their user accounts on their phones. However, they can access the collector map with ArcCIS.com map viewer on their desktops. What am I doing wrong?

Those properties will show up after you save a map with an editable feature service. Then going into the Map details and clicking on the edit button you should see the check boxes to enable/disable this properties.

I am just starting to use the map collector. I am following the steps shown in the tutorial but when I'm going to "Configure map capabilities" (http://doc.arcgis.com/en/collector/android/create-maps/configure-map-capabilities.htm), I can't see the features to enable/disble (routing, measure tool, etc) . The tutorial shows a tip that may be related to my problem, except that I created the map today... (I believe this tip doesn't apply to my situation).

I would really appreciate any thought on the subject

Just a brief follow-up on the attachment issue with some samsung devices. We just got the 4.3 update on our SIII (AT&T) and from the looks of it, samsung's update has fixed the issue.

How big is the resolution in your photos? I have noticed that if photo being save has a high resolution setting it can take a bit to upload. If I change the resolution to a lower setting, the attachment is saved quicker.

I checked - the size of the image file that I took with the Camera MX is 1.6 mb. Good point - maybe an adjustment to the image resolution would be a good thing to add to the workflow.

The CameraMax app did work. The only issue is the length of time it took for the phone to update the map. A best practice would seem to be to not be too quick to walk "off-station" while waiting for the map to update with the attached photo.

One new wrinkle: For some reason there is now a copy of the map I was updating in my ArcGIS Online account for organizations. I suppose it is possible I somehow created a copy, I am just not sure of the new web map copy. Both updated fine vai the collector app and photo MX.

it looks like its a memory issue with the camera app and not the collector on some samsung devices and that we�??re investigating if theres anything we can do in collector to work around it. We did notice that the Camera MX app was still working within the Collector app when the stock camera app was causing issues when we used it attached photos.

Yes. Sorry that is one piece of information I neglected to add - I am a Verizon customer. I will try that app in the workflow first thing tomorrow. Thanks for the information.

Hello Russ,

I think attachments are enabled properly because I can update the attachments in-office post field collection and view the attachments via the collector app. So it would seem to me that, yes it is probably happening to services that have attachments enabled. But to be fair I have only had this one test.

Not sure if this meant for me - but I can share the parameters for what I did today:

1. I created a map service using the steps outlined in this ArcUser tutorial:http://www.esri.com/esri-news/arcuser/summer-2013/create-your-own-collector-map

2. Once I had the app set up on my Organizational ArcOnline account while following the steps outlined; I went outside - and started collecting points on the college campus where I work.

3. Testing iteration #1 - I took some points and tried to take photos. I did this at three different points on campus and none of thepoints updated on the online map (verified in-office). Also - none of the photos were in the on-board photo gallery. Each time the photo attachment would crash the app or at least cause it to loop.

4. Testing iteration #2 - I took some points, but I did not use the Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 1.4.2 camera to log locations. I did try to take one photo. Again, the result was that the app crashed. Again any photos taken with the collector app initiating the Samsung S3 camera app would result in no photos in the Gallery.

So to sum up, I created a service using the desktop (10.1) and published it to an organizational ArcOnline account where I am also an administrator. I pointed the collector app at the proper url for my organization and logged into the collector app with the proper credentials. No photos can be processed successfully using a Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 1.4.2. Points can be successfully collected and photos shared via a third party service (like Google Drive). Of course this linking of photos needs to be done back in the office - post field collection.

I am using a Samsung Galaxy 3S. The android version is 4.1.2 and I am using Collector to attach the photo.

A work around might be to:

1. Take the photo and post it to Google Drive
2. Download the Google Drive desktop app and sync it to your online account
3. Edit the collected points on the desktop in your office, by attaching the images from Google Drive desktop app.

I just tested this myself and it works pretty well as far as a work-around goes. The image that is uploaded from your Google Drive account will open in a new tab when opened from the collected point.

My Android phone camera and gallery will not work with the Collector app either.

Update - if you use this method, the image will get carried through to the basic storytelling web app and behaves similarly to the web map behavior.

What device are you using, what version of android are you running and what app were you using to attach a photo (gallery, g+ photo etc.) or camera app. We have seen a bug with the stock gallery app and the auto-backup folder on some devices however it looks like itst a bug with the gallery and not the collector.

Paul - I can tell you that I am having issues collecting points and saving pictures to the location I am standing at. I noticed that on
Android 4.1.2 version, any pictures I attempt to take and attach to the point are *not* stored in the gallery of the phone. I took
three pictures and none of them are currently in the Android camera gallery.

I was using the on-board camera app and gallery that comes with the Samsung Galaxy S3. When I attempt to attach a photo to a point it crashes the app. Or at least the cursor turns for a really long time and does not seem to close the process. I checked back in the office and none of the points I added outside were added to the map.

Update:

Again I was using the tutorial posted to the Summer 2013 issue of ArcUser magazine. I have an organizational account and I have verified that I am logged into the app with the correct url for the AGO site for the my organization and I *think* i have properly created the map service.

Update 2:

I can verify that it is indeed the on-board camera app for the Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.1.2. I have successfully collected points without taking pictures. The map in the app updated as did the online version of the app.

When I did attempt to take a picture it crashed the app upon attempting to save the image to the collected point. The image is *not* in the Android gallery. Please note - that this time the taken image is in my gallery.

I want to also report that I am using a Samsung Galaxy S3 with Android 4.1.2. The app is crashing when I attempt to collect a point
and a picture. I thought I collected three points this morning where I work. I cam back into the office and none of the "points" I
thought I was collecting showed up on the map.

I created the points using the tutorial posted to the Summer 2013 ArcUser Magazine "Hands-On" section.

Holy cow, how embarassing! The phone was logged in with a nearly identical username to the one I was trying to sync with. Thank you so much for all of your help.

EDIT:
I tested out the app in our parking lot and was able to collect a point, but the program crashed twice when I tried to take a attach a picture. I sent two error reports, but wanted to post it here as well. I tried it when I returned to the office to see if it needed the wifi connection and was able to fill out the form. When it came time to attach the photo, the screen became gray with a loading circle in the middle. Going on a few minutes now and the app has not crashed yet, but it hasn't done anything either.

Another thing I noticed outside was that the iPad app displayed a numerical value for the amount of error, but the Android map did not (as far as I could tell). Am I missing it?

I have passed the issue for explorer online removing the Collector flag onto the explorer team.

For the Android issue are you logged into the app with the same account?
have you refreshed your map list?

I experienced this isssue yesterday and was eventually able to resolve it on an iPad. Now my troubles lie with getting the same map I used for the iPad to display on a Samsung Galaxy S3. I cannot locate anything in the other threads indicating an issue with Android. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I have noticed that if you save the map in ArcGIS Explorer, the map will not show up in collector. If you re-save the map in ArcGIS Online then the map will show in collector

When you go to the Map Details page do you see any Application Properties towards the bottom of the page. The properties should have Routing, Measure, Basemaps enabled by default.

I created a map that utilizes data hosted on our ArcGIS Server. Feature services are running and I am able to edit/modify/delete data within our web browser. However, the map is NOT listed under the collector app once I login. Any ideas why?

Table attributes have been enabled for editing.

I have been able to successfully add a feature service, collect point data, make it editable, and add attachments, fantastic its just what i needed. Then when I tried to access my newly created map (which was fully accessible on my collector/AGO) on a co-workers collector, it was not found. I have gone back into my map, checked 'share' wherever possible and it is still not coming up on their collector. What am I possibly overlooking here?

You can go into your "My Content" add a csv or shapefile through Add Item and check off "publish as feature service" once the service is created you can go to the item page for that service(this is created after the service has been published) and then you can click on edit and adjust the capabilities for that service (Add/Update/Delete, Editor Tracking & Ownership Controls).

ok, so in more sleuthing around about feature services it seems this is where the crux of our difficulties lie. I tried another test map but this time I went into 'my content' then 'create service', in the first drop down box the options read: create from an existing service, or create from a template, since there an existing service was not available I chose a template, in this case location services. This then created a feature service which in turn allowed me to create a test map, that I was able to then locate on Collector. So since the issue lied with 'feature services' my question then becomes, can I import a form/database that will be used in the 'feature services' or do I need to construct a brand new geodatabase using AGO?

So what are we doing wrong with our data and/or upload that does not enable editing? We have point data and associated attribute table, which we are incorporating as a template for users to fill out, thus needing it to be editable. It almost sounds like you are suggesting there is a step we are missing in our initial population of the attribute table???
