This is a major release with breaking changes, driven by the update of the technology components supporting Geoportal Server, such as Java, Tomcat, and Spring. Geoportal Server 4.0.0 will require Tomcat 11+, with Java 25+, and Spring 6.
Apart from these infrastructure upgrades, Geoportal Server 4.0.0 also includes enhancements to our STAC implementation. We have also added a Model Context Protocol (MCP) handler for STAC, allowing Geoportal Server's STAC to participate in agentic workflows.
