What is the intended way to clean up after utilizing offline maps?

I currently have 20 different versions, most of which are duplicates of one user repeatedly downloading the map on different devices. All edits from the versions have been reconciled and posted. I believe most, if not all of the offline maps have been deleted from the devices they were downloaded to. But I am still left with a bunch of cryptically named versions and replicas that I have no idea what to do with. I know I can manually delete them, but it is a huge hassle, especially when active offline work is being done, to figure out what is and isn't safe to delete. Surely I am missing a piece of this workflow?

Does your workflow require you to create a version for each downloaded map, even if it is for the same user? Or, would creating a single version per user (regardless of the number of times they download it) be an acceptable alternative? Regardless, based on the documentation I'm reading, it appears that you do need to delete the replica versions manually. Esri will automatically delete the feature service replicas, but not the actual version replicas that are associated with the feature service replicas. In fact, you won't be able to delete the version replica until the feature service replica has been deleted.
