How do I breakdown each line patches for the Legend ?

Here It  is a boring legend of the feature type I have for a Rangeland Improvement line layer . It is a range line by type that I need to sort out different shapes of patch lines . Is there a way around to make them more interesting patches  to break them down ?

Good question, Dan. This legend is meant for the specialists that are going through to do some cleaning up like some of the words do not make sense. So, I was trying to make them each of them breakdown,  but I did not realized that 40 is too much ...You are right that they should be smaller classes about 10 of them.

40 classes?  Are there any more than abou 7-10 at anyone time?  I suspect that the map will become a blur beyond that .  I don't suppose it is in the cards to produce targeted maps by theme to widdle down the classes, fix that symbology up which could be repurposed in another with a different theme
