Password reset via SMTP in Portal

Question

Good morning,
We are trying to configure password reset via SMTP in Portal, but we are getting an error.
However, sending emails via SMTP works when we try it using Python from the same machine on which Portal is installed.

I have obscured the options in the image, but we have tried both SSL and the other options.

When we check the debug logs, we get this errors:

Do you have any suggestions?

Hi @denniszammarchi,

You can attempt with the Root and Intermediate on Portal Administrative Directory and if that does not work for you I would suggest reaching out to Support. I would not be tempted to touch the internal Portal Trust store without confirmation that it is safe to do so.

Do you suggest importing the root and intermediate certificates of the SMTP server into the Portal Admin (Security > SSLCertificates), or should they be manually added to the Portal's internal Java Truststore (cacerts)?

I'm asking because I noticed that Python (using system stores) works fine, while Portal (Java-based) returns the error

Hi @denniszammarchi,

I hope you are doing well. I have faced a similar situation but not with STARTTLS.

The issue you are facing could be also caused by Portal not trusting the certificate of your e-mail server or the difference between TLS configuration of your Portal. In certain situations also network rules might block Portal even though through Python might be working fine.

I would advise you to get in touch with Esri Support and let them know the Portal version and share the relevant details of your configuration as well as a sample of your Python script that sends the e-mail successfully.
