Media Issue: Embed and Video Link Not Working for YouTube link.

Hi y'all,

I'm working on a StoryMap in Portal. I'm familiar with building StoryMaps in ArcGIS Online, but have never used Portal. It seems like there are several differences including fewer Cover layouts and less Media options.

The issue I'm having is embedding a video into a StoryMap. I'm familiar with this process in AGOL and have done it multiple times.

In the StoryMap in Portal, I've tried to use the Embed option, as well as the Video option. Neither work. When I embed the video, it posts to the StoryMap, but says "www.youtube.com refused to connect" in the thumbnail. And when I check the Video media option, there is no option to post a Link like there is in AGOL. I've also tried multiple video links from YouTube (in case the link itself was the issue), but none work.

I've attached photos showing the dead link thumbnail, the Embed media option used, and the missing Link option in the Video media menu.

My guess is that this has something to do with the StoryMap being set up in Portal and not AGOL, but as I'm new to Portal, I do not know how to address this issue.

@SJ_COV - Oh, I believe you'll need to use the full embed code for web videos from sites like YouTube, Vimeo, etc. This is because of a difference in how embedded content is handled on Enterprise vs. Online. For example, for this video What is ArcGIS?, you'll need to copy the embed code from YouTube by clicking Share and then selecting Embed. You can also copy just the URL from the embed code and paste that into the ArcGIS StoryMaps builders: https://www.youtube.com/embed/FRcv9xmmojE?si=5iwvCGpRMWBZatZV We will work on documenting this in the future.

Thanks for the quick response. I reached out my enterprise portal admin to check that the linked media option was enabled in ArcGIS Enterprise. It looks like it was already enabled, and yet I'm still having issues with adding videos/media to the StoryMap in portal.

Do you have any additional suggestions for how to troubleshoot this issue? I'm facing a deadline soon and would like to have a solution/explanation ready if this StoryMap route isn't viable.

ArcGIS Enterprise is a software product that is installed and maintained by your organization's IT department, so it's important to understand which version you are using to know which features may or may not be available.

The ability to use linked media in ArcGIS StoryMaps on ArcGIS Enterprise must be enabled by your enterprise portal administrator. For more information see Organization settings | ArcGIS StoryMaps Help.
