Calculate field on an online feature layer deletes all other attribute data within that layer

When using the calculate field on a hosted feature layer (python parser), the calculation succeeds, but all of the other attribute data is deleted, leading to a notable loss of data/work. Why?!

Has anyone else had this issue? I've been able to replicate this several times, and have no Idea why it is happening. the issue does not occur on locally stored feature classes.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds to me like you are using ArcGIS Pro. There was a bug in Pro 3.6.0 that was fixed in 3.6.1 BUG-000181088 that appeared to show data loss. This applied to certain editing workflows including using the Calculate Field tool with the Python or Arcade option (SQL option did not have this problem). If this is the case you should be able to update to 3.6.1 to resolve this.

Here are the work arounds listed in that bug:

Option 1: Use the 'Enable undo' button to force an edit session during the calculation.
Option 2: Refresh the map (not the attribute table) after the calculation. This should empty the cache and refresh the attribute table as well.
Option 3: Use the 'Empty' cache button before or after running the calculation. Option 4: Use the SQL expression type to perform the calculation. This may not always be possible when performing complex Python, Arcade, or VBScript as the expression type.
Option 5: Set the layer properties cache setting to 'Don't cache any data locally'.

Can you provide some more information on your workflow? Are you using the Calculate field workflow available in Map Viewer and the data tab? You mention Python... are you performing this operation in an ArcGIS Notebook?

You are correct, I am using ArcGIS Pro. An update to the latest version solved this issue.
