Offline Map - Download failed with new service from Portal

We have a couple offline Field Maps tailored for staff. ALL layers within the offline web maps are ArcGIS Online hosted layers with sync enabled.

Recently turned on sync / offline capabilities for a core layer for our organization. This layer is NOT hosted on AGOL, rather it is published to Portal and shared as an item using rest service URL to AGOL. Nothing else has changed in the map other than the addition of that service, however, when trying to download an offline map area, it gives a "Download failed" error fairly quickly. Is there an issue with offline mapping when referencing services from Portal? What could the solution be?

Reviewing the logs, it looks like the error is "Failed to create replica" and perhaps something with the token. It also says unknown error occurred when downloading map. Some known issues with the error above has to do with "move edits to base" checked, which ours is not. Our data is traditional versioned.

My offline experience has been services published directly to portal without any involvement with AGOL. So there may be issues going on I'm not familiar with.

Based on that, I'm guessing the offline attempt fails on the Field Maps side? If so, you can check the logs in the app contained in the user profile/troubleshooting section. Without the help of tech support you may not get much from the log but you never know ... maybe the error will be straight forward in language, or you'll be able to search the web for similar errors.

An additional suggestion I'll make is to make sure you do not have any feature classes that are being "double referenced" with a feature service in the map - i.e. make sure you don't have a definition query for isolation or symbology purposes on a feature only to use that same feature in the map in a different way. Each feature service can only be referenced one time in a map being taken offline for archiving comparison purposes. With online maps this is obviously not an issue, but offline references for services in a map must be singular.

Lastly, make sure the feature class is actually archived enabled in your database (or whatever specified setup is required depending upon whether or not your database is versioned). Here's some documentation in case you're not familiar with this situation.
