I just wanted to share with you my new ArcGIS Viewer 2.0 Beta Site.

I am busy working on my Dynamic Legend Widget for ArcGIS Viewer for Flex 2.0 and will submit it to the code gallery when done (most people will have to wait until they deploy ArcGIS Server 10 before they can use it though).

FYI- I probably will not share any of my code changes that I did for my site until the viewer is out of Beta, that way I won't have code out there that will just break once ESRI releases the final version.

Be sure to share you ArcGIS Viewer for Flex 2.0 Site once you get them deployed.:D

Wow, these are really great examples! Question, I've been searching the forums for help on adding my navigation tools as buttons to the header controller (like your example site) but I can't find anything. I'd like to keep the basic mapzoom slider but then have the zoom in, zoom out, pan etc as buttons at the top of the map. Any idea where to go from some example code? Thanks!

OK, thanks for the heads up. You might have better luck with setting the wmode to "transparent" which also fixes the cursor issue.

The problem I have with the workaround is that it as causes Flash Filters to cease working. i.e. bevel filter on my sites header controller.

Robert, I notice that in the context menu for the map, the mouse cursor disappears for me when I enter the context menu. I have the same problem in my context menus and am wondering if you have done any looking into this. I did a little test and I see that it may be related to the hand cursor used for the map.

Here was my test: I simply right-click on the map. My cursor disappears. I then activated the draw widget, which changes the cursor to a pointer. I then right-clicked on the map rather than starting to draw something and the cursor did not go away. Also, I get an error when I attempt to draw anything using the draw widget. The error says it is in the drawEnd function. This is the same in both configurations. I am using IE 7.0.5730.13.

Hi Robert, really liking what you have done with the Flex Viewer!

Would it be cheeky to ask you a few tips?

Firstly, How do you get the draw tool to draw circles? Have you extended the DrawTool?

Secondly, do you have any tips on the exporting of graphics layers and importing them again like you have done in your browser...i really like this feature!!

I don't think it was to hard. The big thing is if you are migrating your custom widgets and want to use mainly Spark then you have to get rid of your repeaters and switch to data groups, which force you to develop item renderers for the datagroup. I went ahead and took the time to migrate all my widgets to the new Spark components all except for my TOC widget. I had to fix serveral things in the Beta Viewer, like data messaging, the infopopupwidget, lots of css, issues with the tooltips and header widgets appearing below docked widgets, etc.

There no time like to present to dive in as this is the direction everyone needs to go.

Robert, how difficult was it to move from the SFV to the new ArcGIS Viewer for Flex? I am about to start the migration and I have a lot of custom code in the SFV, just want to know what I have in store!

At first I was going to say that I had no problems with the sites using IE7. I was bouncing around between the two trying to see what the other guy was seeing. After about the 5th time, I finally got the error, then the next time some of the tools didn't appear. Then it started working okay again.

Weird.

I like the new toolbar though. It keeps the banner out of the display area - especially when something appears beneath the banner.

This also happens once in Google Chrome on the first time, but not on refresh. I've been noticing that the tool bar is not consistently appearing in IE7 (we're not able to upgrade to 8 yet). Sometimes, the arrows to move the icons do not appear until I move the cursor over the map (filling in the X,Y coordinates) or resize the window. This is very intermittent.

It's coming up with a different error now. The message Error #1009 flashes briefly, then disappears. The empty error window remains. This happens on Firefox 3.6.6 (upgraded last night) every time I refresh it and once on IE7, but not on subsequent refreshes.

I'm not a fan of the 'Code Gallery', title either. When I first visited the site I spent ages looking for the download option and never found it because you could not download any code. Obviously I know now, but I was very frustrated at the time looking for it...

Joshua, some entries have code available (for example the source code for the Flex Viewer). It is up to each developer if they want to include the source code (or not), or if they want to provide a working link to it (or not).

It is similar to the old code gallery in that you can sort, rate, comment and download actual code (if it was uploaded). Click on the "Details" below the thumbnail and you should be able rate, comment, and download the code (if available).

We decided to keep the name as "Code Gallery" because "Code and Application Gallery" seemed a bit long 🙂

I am not seeing any way to sort. All I see is a search box and thumbnails for the 3 items currently in there.

I guess I am struggling to understand what to expect when seeing "Purpose:Configurable". For me, the most obvious/logical answer would be to expect something that is, well, configurable. If it isn't configurable, the purpose can't really be "configurable."

Now, looking at the options on arcgis.com (which kind of take some guess work to navigate to), it looks like there are options for "Code Sample", "Configurable", and "Ready to Use." All 3 of those options sound like available code for a user to download. What makes Robert's finished app "Configurable" and not "Ready to Use"?

The labeling should be from the perspective of a person navigating the gallery. If Person A uploads something and Person B is someone looking at the gallery- Is it configurable to Person B? Is it ready to use for Person B? If it isn't, how are those categories accurate or useful for Person B?

Maybe there needs to be another category for "Showcase" or some term that makes it clear (and doesn't require the user to guess) that is solely to show off applications that other people have completed.

It seems confusing. Saying the "Purpose: Configurable" would sound to me like something anyone can download and configure (like the old widgets/customizations in the old gallery).
