how many ArcGIS server sites one can federate to ArcGIS Enterprise Base deployment?

Good Morning!
Esri documentation says ArcGIS Enterprise Base deployment allows you to federate one or more/multiple ArcGIS server sites. 
how many ArcGIS server sites one can federate to ArcGIS Enterprise Base deployment? is there a specific number? say for example 10 ArcGIS server sites federated to Portal for ArcGIS, Did anyone noticed any performance issues on Portal for ArcGIS?.

Yes, its high availability with 20(server quantity) multi -node federated server sites. Some multi node federated server sites include:
UN Edit (4 nodes - server1, server n)
UN View  (4 nodes)
mapping X (4 nodes)
mapping xyz (4 nodes) 
mapping xyz (4 nodes)
So the question is If we federate multi node federated Server sites to Portal, are there any performance issues on Portal for ArcGIS?

I am not aware of a limit on the number of federated servers, but can you explain what kind of setup you're looking to implement? Highly-available configuration could be a potential solution here.
