Copying Dashboard from ArcGIS Online to ArcGIS Portal

I am in the process of copying dashboards from ArcGIS Online to ArcGIS Portal but running into issues. My current workflow is to create a blank dashboard in Portal and copy the JSON from the Online dashboard to the Portal dashboard using ArcGIS Online Assistant, changing the version and updating any layer references.

There are no errors displayed but when opening the Portal dashboard, it doesn't show any data. Am I missing anything in the JSON that needs to change/get updated? Or is it not possible to transfer Dashboards from AGOL to Portal. 

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I do not think copying the JSON is enough. There is more to an app than what is visible in the JSON file.

The most powerful tool for these kinds of workflows is the Cloning Content function in ArcGIS API for Python.

There are also third party applications available, such as GEO Jobe, that makes migration easier.
