Autopopulate a field where it is an alpha-numeric entry but each item needs a unique "number"

Question

I have multiple features that required unique names they are all required to carry both alpha and numeric characters.  How can I autopopulate the feature "name"? 
Example of the names:
WD-F02-01

WD-F02-02

WD-F02-03 and so on.

@MartyLoper This is very common scenario and has multiple solution options depending on requirements and maintenance preference.

* Schema Design: An alphanumeric unique ID can be created in the schema using GlobalID or GUID fields and they auto-generated, maintained by the GDB.
* Calculate: If the values must follow a pattern, similar to examples, review Calculate Field - String Operations.
