Error adding Google Sheets to AGOL

I am trying to add a Google Sheet to a map in ArcGIS Online, following the process described in this tech support article: https://support.esri.com/en/technical-article/000022290 

I get through the publishing without any errors, but once I open the feature layer in ArcGIS online, this error box pops up. 

If I refresh the page, the error box disappears and I can open it in Map Viewer, but there is no data and this error box:

Does anyone know what this error means, or how I can resolve it?

Hello,

Looks like it may be a security issue?  I found this thread that speaks about an ArcGIS Server web service through HTTP to an ArcGIS Online web map through HTTPS... but you are using google sheets could service instead.
