The default setup for one of my Hub pages had a section to add a calendar of events, and I was able to create and populate one event from there. However, per these instructions, I am unable to create any more events. The only New thing I can create is a site. See image showing Overview page, a snippet of the one event I was able to create, and my only New option.)
Yes, I do have the necessary permissions to create events.
What am I missing?

To follow up, I did find a way to add new events. I stumbled on the way to do it through a maze of convoluted links all over the place, so I don't know how I got there now. I simply bookmarked a page for creating events and I go to that each time I want to create an event.
For anyone reading this, though, while I don't know how I got to the right place, this should help you:
1. To add a new event, append this to the end of your hub url address: /events/edit/new
2. To edit a hub event, append this to the end of your hub url address: /events/edit
