White screen of death and data not updating

Hi,

I'm having the same issue as in this post (https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-for-excel-questions/arcgis-for-excel-map-doesn-t-display-when-w...).

On and off for the week I have been trying to get Excel for ArcGIS to work. Just when I think everything is great, the white screen of death happens.

Did anything ever get figured out for the white screen of death. In my case, Reset Map is grayed out, so that tip doesn't work in my case. The issue occurs in both online and app versions.

I also sporadically have an issue where data doesn't go from Excel back to hosted layer in Enterprise. Please let me know if there are tips for that.

Thanks,

Tim

Hi, @TimLohnes1 ,

We recently moved our users from ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.1 to ArcGIS Online and have not had reports of this problem since.  We never pinned down the cause; however I wouldn't be surprised if it had something to do with the way we had SSO implemented in our ArcGIS Enterprise environment.  That said, usage of ArcGIS for Excel is limited to a very few individuals in our organization so we don't have a lot of history to draw conclusions one way or another.

Good morning @TimLohnes1

Thank you for posting your inquiry. I think @EricKlein1 did a nice job of adding some background. As I mentioned in the post you referenced, can you open the same map/excel workbook signed into arcgis.com, rather than enterprise? If so, this may explain an issue isolated to the Enterprise environment rather than ArcGIS for the Excel add-in issue.

Best,

SC

Shannon,

I'm adding an enterprise layer to excel and prefer for it to stay that way. I can bring it over to arcgis.com and test it though. It is a funny thing because I have no idea what triggers it. I will open and close and edit the workbook a few times, share the xlsx with someone outside our org and have them edit it and see if arcgis.com data triggers the issue.

Will report back.
