I wanted to get people's thoughts on how often to run the webgisdr backup utility in both full and incremental mode?

Thanks,

Patrick

Yeah it’s not so much about best practice.  Your specific schedule should be informed by your non-functional requirements and specifically your Restore Point Object and Recovery Time Objective.

Simply - How much (hosted) data/configuration can you live without?

most of my clients are running 10PM backups daily on full.  Many haven’t addressed RTO/RPO considerations fully.

We run full backups every Sunday morning.

My systems have a ton of data in them. I run Full backups on Monday, then incremental backups for the next two weeks.

Before I run the next full backup.  I move the existing backup files to another host for longer term storage and begin the process again.

Hi @PatrickMcKinney99, my two cents on this, it would depend on your policy, how much space you have available, more is always better if you have space.

On a side note, I would not just relight on WebGISDR which is a point in time recovery for the whole system, because it is all or nothing, I had cases where portal broke for example, but the client lost data in datastore because his backup was a week old. I would also add the site export for portal and ArcGIS Server and the data store backup for datastore, that will give you more flexibility if just one component breaks.

Hope it helps

Henry
