Hi everyone! We are running an on-prem, multi-machine Enterprise deployment sitting at version 11.3.

Previously in Enterprise 11.1, a user would have the ability to add a PDF as an item to their portal content. Then, by accessing this item via the portal/sharing/rest API, one would be able to view said item in the browser without having to download the item. The URL format was as follows: https://portal.domain/portal/sharing/rest/content/items/itemid/data

With the recent upgrade, we are no longer able to view PDFs in this manner. Additionally of note, the overview of the item details page shows "Download" | "Update Data" | "Share" versus the 11.1 version of "Open" | "Update" | "Share".

Calling "/data" at the end of the item's sharing/rest location immediately initiates a download of the item. This presents a problem for all previously built ExB applications that had PDFs referenced in them as viewable content.

If anyone has seen/heard of this before, please let me know if you have found a fix!!!

Hello Brandon,

Looking into this more, it sounds like BUG-000169460 for Portal for ArcGIS (esri.com)

Can you confirm that this is the behavior you're running into?

@JustinMallinckrodt Yes! This is the BUG that was generated from my Technical support case. Was trying to reach out to the community to see if anyone else was running into the same issue.

Justin,

Have you been able to find anything about this?

I have the same issue after upgraded to 11.3 from 10.9.1.  Prior the upgrade, I was able to view PDF on the web browser instead of download.  Now, can only view the PDF from the download folder.

Thanks for tagging me again, my apologies for the delay.

I can confirm we're able to reproduce this bug internally through the workflow that you provided. I do not have an update on this specifically. It hasn't been prioritized as we currently only have 1 account attached, so it will not be in 11.4. Unfortunately, I do not have a workaround for you at this time either.

Anyone running into this issue should get attached to BUG-000169460 so we can have a better understanding of this larger impact. e.g. @Pei-SanTsai

To get attached to an Esri bug, you need to follow these steps:

  2. Navigate to Support: On the Organization Profile page, click the Support drop-down menu and select “Bugs & Enhancements.”
  3. Find the Bug: Search for the specific bug you want to get attached to. In this case; BUG-000169460
  4. Attach to the Bug: Expand the bug record by clicking the plus sign (+) on the left-hand side. On the right-hand side of the bug record, click the attachment (upload) icon.
  5. Complete the Form: Fill out the form with the necessary details, including the number of people affected and a business justification explaining the impact of the bug on your organization. You can also add attachments if needed.
  6. Submit

If you need assistance with this, you can reach out to Technical Support.
