This article is for users of the ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App promotional period that were quoted or purchased ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App prior to June 2021. In June 2021, we launched ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App Advanced, allowing users around the globe to utilize advanced workflows such as void analysis, suitability analysis, and more! This article will assist the customers that are coming to the end of their promotional period.

How an Administrator in your organization can reassign licenses
As the administrator of your ArcGIS Online organization, you may have received a License expiration notice notification when you signed in to ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App in February 2023.
The notice indicates that some or all of the users in your organization currently have Advanced licenses that will expire and you as the administrator can choose to revert to Standard licenses. This article describes why the license levels are changing and how to assign the licenses.
Why are the licenses in my organization changing?
Starting in June 2021, ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App began offering two license levels: Standard and Advanced. As a courtesy, existing customers were moved to the Advanced license level at no additional cost, for the remainder of that subscription period plus a one-year promotional period following that.
Now that your original subscription period and the one-year promotional period have ended, it’s time to decide which licenses in your organization should remain Advanced licenses, and which can be reassigned as Standard licenses.

The customers that were a part of this promotional period gained access to ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App Advanced until the end of their next maintenance period. During this time, ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App Advanced customers used advanced capabilities and more complex analysis tools such as, void analysis, suitability analysis, customized infographics, and more.

What to expect at the end of your promotional period
Near the end of your promotional period, the Administrator will receive reminders through email communication as well as through the ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App pop-up notification. These reminders will notify the Administrator that the promotional period is coming to an end and action is required on their end
- Would you like to continue using ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App Advanced at the current Esri price?
- Or would you like to reassign your users to ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App Standard?
Please note – If an organization does not decide to upgrade its subscription to the ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App Advanced level at the end of their promotional period, each subscription will default to ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App Standard level. Administrators must use the ArcGIS Online license page to reassign the licenses. If an organization decides to default to ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App Standard level, any work created with the Advanced capabilities will be limited to access-only when the promotion expires, meaning users will not be able to edit or update the work.

Why did Esri introduce the two product license levels in 2021?
ArcGIS Business Analyst is a product that is continuously evolving. ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App used to be a simple tool, but with the product team's constant innovation based on customer feedback, many new features and data have been added to the product over time. Therefore, it started to become overly complex for some users’ expectations. At the same time, some advanced users were requesting even more—and more complex—analysis tools. After market research, many user interviews, and extensive analysis, we decided to offer two products to the market–ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App Standard and Advanced licenses—to better serve different user groups’ needs. Users can now make product choices according to their use cases and workflows.

What will happen to my previous work that used features that are now only available at the Advanced license level?
When you reassign a user with an ArcGIS Business Analyst Web Advanced license to a Standard license, work done in the Advanced license is retained and stored in ArcGIS Online. Any work created with the Advanced capabilities will be limited to access-only when the promotion expires, meaning users will not be able to edit or update the work.

Custom data that was set up | Previously set up custom data is still available for color-coded maps and Smart Map Search in the data browser under the My Data tab. However, the data cannot be updated or edited. |
Custom infographics and reports | Custom infographics and reports are still available in the applications, and users can run these infographics and reports. However, they cannot be updated or edited. Therefore, if variables change in a data update, the reports cannot be updated. |
Analysis results | Previously created analysis results (i.e. threshold areas sites) are still available in the project pane. However, to run the Advanced workflows (i.e. suitability analysis, threshold areas) is unavailable. |
