Which tool would be best for calculating lake volumes?
Data: I have point cloud data of the lakebeds and lake surface collected by both green and NIR lasers, respectively. I also have high resolution bare earth DEMs sourced from both sets of lasers.
My current workflow with the Polygon Volume Tool:
1) estimating the mean Z of the lake surface based on the NIR DEM via Surface Information Tool
2) isolating the point cloud data within the lake using the lake's polygon and the Extract LAS Tool
3) Polygon Volume Tool
My current workflow with the Surface Volume Tool:
1) estimating the mean Z of the lake surface based on the NIR DEM with the Surface Information Tool
2) isolating the green laser DEM with the lake's polygon and Clip Raster Tool
3) Surface Volume Tool
Also, I would like to know whether the use of the Polygon Volume Tool and Surface Volume Tool is dependent on the study area's topography. I noticed the input surface files differ among the two tools, but is there anything else I should consider/be aware about the two tools?
