EZ Profiler 9.3 won't load into ArcGIS 10 on Windows 7

I used to use the EZ Profiler 9.3 tool to sample cross sections (aka profile graphs) off contours A LOT.  Often, I need to create a small HEC-RAS model that doesn't warrant the setup associated with HEC-GeoRAS or I only have contours and don't want to generate a surface.

Anyway, EZ Profiler worked fine in ArcGIS 10 until I upgraded to a Windows 7 64-bit laptop.  Now, with the laptop, I have tried several times to load the .dll using the Customize/Add from File method that I used previously.  Everytime, I get "No new objects added."  I have tried loading from both local and network locations with the same result.

The kicker to all of this is that a coworker is using ArcGIS on a Windows 7 workstation and he was able to load the .dll just fine.  I tried loading it from the same path location he uses and it still didn't work.

Any thoughts on how I can get this to work?  I know that I can get profile graphs using 3D Analyst, but that requires a surface and takes more steps, so I'd really like to get EZ Profiler to work.

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried using the interpolate line and profile graph tool on the 3D Analyst toolbar? If you right click on the graph and go to advanced properties you can get the data table and copy to the clipboard to paste into RAS or Excel (or you can export from the graph to a wide variety of formats).

You mention that you have coworkers that have windows 7 and are able to use it ok.  Are they also running 64b Win7?  64b processes and 32b processes can sometime use different .dll's.  When 64b OS's first hit the market there was a bit of an uproar over backwards compatibility because even some software that came out just months before 64b rolled out would no longer work.

One thing you can try, but I highly doubt it will work, is to find your Arc executable file(default is:C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Bin)->right click and go to properties->compatibility tab->check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select windows XP.

This can sometimes get around the 64v32 issue, but since you are trying to install an extension and not the main program itself I do not think it will work.  Worth a shot though...

Try to open the ArcGIS as an Administrator, it should solve the problem. Did for me.
rt-click the ArcGIS icon ----> select to Run as administrator, try adding the file now.
