The USGS Data Gateway has been down for close to 2 weeks now.  Does anyone have any idea why it is down?  A Facebook search on USGS Data Gateway leads to conspiracy theories about the Trump administration shutting it down.  Is there any possible truth to this?

https://gdg.sc.egov.usda.gov  does indeed indicate it is down... but you can go to the link on that page and request data.  Did you do that? or are you more interested in whether there something else more interesting going on

Yes, the link that you provided does state that the site is down. And it appears like the current wording is different than it was a few days ago. The site now states that it has been down since Jan 13th. And they are working to get it back up again. Also, it states that no data will be restricted.

So there is probably nothing going on… it is just taking them some time to get the site back up.

and in the interim... you can request the data in the link if time is of the essence
