I'm looking for a local goverment solution to house scanned deeds and plats. We are using ArcGIS for Server 10.1 SP1 and would like to link the scans on our parcel viewer web application. The two options available out the box are a hyperlink field and an attachment built inside SDE. I don't want to use attachments because of the potential database size increase and I'm pretty sure I don't want to use hyperlinks because of the potential for messing up the paths or naming convention of the files.
I think I remember reading that ESRI was going about incorporating un-managed attachments but I can not verify nor have I seen anything else about it. This was before ArcGIS 10.1 was introduced.
Does anyone know of a third-party document management solution that can be integrated with ArcGIS 10.1? I'm open to all suggestions, even ones that consider how you have accomplished this task using hyperlinks or attachments.
We use a third-party application, Logan Systems, for our Register of Deeds documents. These documents are scanned and as part of the service they provide, they are made available over the web. We then had the vendor mod their website to allow me to hyperlink directly to the scanned image(s) and bypass their disclaimers and search mechanism. The hyperlink is the same for all documents of the same type and the only thing that changes is the book and page. It works well for us but may not be the ultimate solution for you. Not sure if this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I just found out that the client is using a service for scanning within the Register of Deeds office. I had no idea before, but now I think this will work out by linking just like you mentioned.
