Data Driven Pages - select index feature

Is there a was to automatically select the index feature in data driven pages?
Details:
In my map layout I have a diagram that highlights the selected feature. I want to loop through the data driven pages and always select the actual indexed layer and so highlight it in the diagram

any ideas?

I think the easiest way to accomplish this is through Page Definition Queries.  A common workflow.

Turn off the Index Layer that is being used to enable DDP.
Add the same index layer again and symbolize it the way you want the "selected" index to appear.
On that layer, via the Definition Query dialog, set up a Page Definition Query to match your index feature.
