Can an AI get Esri certified professional certifications and a GISP?

Hey @BillFox

Great question, really starts making you think into the ethics of AI, and what to consider it an expert/professional of.

In the question of plain certification, if an AI was given a multiple choice quiz, it would more than likely excel and get a perfect/near perfect score. I haven't seen these certifications myself, but I assume these are based on GIS knowledge that would be obtained during professional work in GIS. AI has a very large advantage of being able to recall things with clarity, but it does have the downside of hallucinating when it is met with information that it cannot recall with great certainty. The amount of knowledge that an AI is trained on, would allow it to pass most certifications without issue. The main problem is would be that if the institution actually allowed an AI to take these exams, which would more than likely come with a cost associated, and credentials being applied to the AI would be challenging, as how do we think of it, as an individual, or a system.

In short, it could, would it be allowed to take these exams outside of research studies? Probably not, but who knows!

Great question!

Esri technical certifications require valid proof of identity (presented in person at a Pearson VUE test center or via their secure online exam proctoring). So AI/agents cannot get Esri-certified (until they manifest as human beings with valid IDs 😉 ). https://www.pearsonvue.com/content/dam/VUE/vue/global/documents/global-id-policy/Pearson-VUE-ID-Poli...

so, for example, the "Esri Support AI Chatbot" to get "Certified/Badges/"
