GIS Day 2025 was celebrated on November 22 during Geography Awareness Week (November 17 – 22) at Liberty Library Innovation Center. The library was inaugurating its opening and hosted 1st to 8th graders from Abune Gorgorios school and 7th and 8th graders from Saint Joseph school both located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The GIS Day activities engaged the seventh and eighth graders and the event included the following activities which were presented and led by staff from Information Systems Services (ISS), an Esri Partner Network member.

1. Short introduction about GIS including What is GIS video from Esri GIS Day website.
2. Examples of local projects that were implemented using GIS technology.
3. Demonstration of a sample tourist locations story map prepared by ISS staff.
4. Treasure hunting quizzes that were adapted to local context.
5. Location and attribute data collection exercise using ArcGIS Field Maps.
6. Q&A session where a number of interesting questions were asked by the students.

The event was also attended by some parents and teachers including vice principal of Saint Joseph school. A photo session was held which also included the 1st to 3rd graders who were having a separate book reading session.
