USeing Model Builder to convert DXF's to shape files

I have been trying to automate a long process, of turning our DXF files into shape files. There are a lot of steps, but the first one is the hardest for me. Normally I load my dxf in arcmap, then right click it and export to shapefile, but I have not been able to figure out this command in Model builder and it is step number one.

Any ideas would be great.

Try using the "Import from CAD" tool in the Conversion toolbox under the To Geodatabase toolset.
You will have to create a temporary geodatabase to store the output which you could then convert to a shapefile.
